MOVING IMAGES

I work with moving image as a way of staying with a moment long enough for something to shift. Through close attention, sensory perception and duration, everyday situations can begin to open into something else — another way of seeing, another sense of time, sometimes another place.

Here While Away

Medium: Video work, colour and original soundDuration: 7:15 min.Series: ZEITRISSELocation: Karlsruhe, Germany

A woman prepares matcha at home. Her slow and deliberate gestures are accompanied only by their sounds. But what begins as an everyday ritual becomes a point of departure.

Here While Away, the first film in the ZEITRISSE series, explores a peculiar contradiction: the possibility of remaining physically in one place while opening a passage to another. As linear time becomes porous, the film carries the viewer through this threshold, where different realities can coexist.

Rather than explaining how these realities relate to one another, the film ultimately leaves the viewer to discover what resonates within.

What Lies Beneath

Medium: Video work, colour, spoken language and original soundDuration: 2:54 min.Language: EnglishLocation: Jungnangcheon (중랑천), Seoul, South Korea

Filmed along the Jungnangcheon in Seoul, What Lies Beneath gradually moves from expansive views of the landscape towards finer details. As perception deepens, what is perceived begins to seek artistic expression.

Created as a translation of my artistic process, the film follows a movement from observing and approaching to going deeper and allowing what has been discovered to find the form in which it can be shared.

What begins with one person’s perception does not end there. Rather than leaving its audience with an answer, the film leaves them with a question of their own: What lies beneath?
